Bachelor
of Arts Degree Learners may enter a Bachelor's degree program with a minimum of one year
of undergraduate credit (30 semester units) and one year of credit for
documented life/work experience. It is preferable for the learner to have
completed two years of undergraduate work before entering Honolulu University,
as the University does not generally offer lower division courses. Fifty percent
of acceptable documented life/work experience credit permitted. Learners entering the University with only one year of transfer credit
(plus one year of documented life/work experience credit) will need to complete
60 units of credit since 120 total semester units are required for graduation.
Learners enrolling with more than 120 semester units of acceptable transfer
credit must complete a minimum of 30 semester units of coursework through the
University to earn a Bachelor's degree. It is recommended that the applicant complete the general education
requirements at another institution since the University does not offer lower
division general education coursework (except in special tutorial arrangements). Master's
Degree Learners may enter a Master's degree program with a Bachelor's degree or
equivalent. The Bachelor of Arts equivalency may be recognized if the learner
has the equivalent of four years of acceptable undergraduate college work
through transcripts and extensive professional level life/work experience or
more than four years of acceptable transcripted college work. A learner may
request credit for prior learning experience for up to fifteen (15) credits for
post-baccalaureate work. In no circumstance will the minimum requirement of 30 units of graduate
credit with 15 units of course work at Honolulu University be waived. Doctorate
Degree The
Master's degree or equivalent is necessary for entrance into a doctoral program.
The Master equivalence recognition requires at least 30 units of acceptable
graduate level credit in appropriate coursework. Prior learning credits may be accepted for the doctoral program if they
were acquired after the Bachelor's degree was obtained.
A minimum of sixty (60)
units of acceptable graduate credit is required for the Doctorate degree. At
least 15 units and an acceptable dissertation must be completed with Honolulu
University. ORGANIZED
