COURSE DESCRIPTION

PSY 645 will focus on the study and understanding of major Personality Theories, systems of Psychotherapy, and theorists. This study will include: psychoanalysis, behavioral, gestalt, reality, client centered, cognitive, and other current psychotherapies. Particular attention will be given to their contribution to therapeutic techniques, strategies, and goals.

At the conclusion of PSY 645, the student will have developed sufficient understanding of theories, theorists, and personality constructs to explain and describe the behavior of individuals and groups within the parameters of various theories of psychotherapy and be able to put theoretical information into practical applications.

COURSE GOALS:

· To develop an awareness of Personality Theory, systems, and approaches to the study of human personality

· To develop an in-depth understanding of major Personality Theories

· To integrate learning into personal concepts and constructs

· To be able to apply theoretical information to the study of behavior and particularly to problems of individual adjustment

EXPECTATIONS AND EVALUATION:

Students will complete a Project.

Write and justify an original personality theory, based on your personal belief and experience system. Cover areas including:

· the nature of man (humans),

· therapeutic processes,

· will,

· personality

· constructs,

· nature vs. nurture

Be thorough - at least 18-20 pages

Students will write a brief chapter summary for each assigned chapter, outlining the course content and its value in therapy.


COURSE PREREQUISITE: A bachelor's degree is the minimum requirement for admission to this course of study. 

COURSE DELIVERY: This course shall be delivered completely through online interaction via the Internet or other acceptable distance learning medium(s). Due to this being a non-traditional program, traditional classroom residency is not required. Therefore, you are expected to independently read and analyze the subject matter with me performing the roles of an advisor and mentor.
