REQUIREMENTS AND POLICIES
Because Honolulu University is a non-traditional educational institution,
admission to the University is based on a non-traditional evaluation
process. Traditional admission requirements (grades, examination, etc.) often do
not take into account the mature adult's personal motivation and intellectual
capacity for the successful completion of an alternative degree program.
The admissions process at Honolulu University is therefore a personalized
one. The major question asked of the learner requesting admission to Honolulu
University is whether he/she has the maturity and professional background to
complete work in the chosen degree program. This is assessed through the
autobiographical statement written by the candidate, recommendations,
transcripted credits transferred from other institutions, work experiences,
training, licenses, seminars the candidate has completed and other such
evidence of personal growth and development.
UNDERGRADUATE: To be admitted as an undergraduate student an applicant
must be a high school graduate, have earned an equivalency diploma or
demonstrated the ability to pursue college level study. Because Honolulu
University does not generally offer lower division courses, learners should have
completed all lower division courses elsewhere or have the life/work experiences
that are assessed as equivalent to required general studies courses.
In exceptional cases, a student may be admitted who needs to complete the
general studies program. Such exceptions are made only with the approval of the
Dean of Academic Affairs.
GRADUATE: To be admitted as a graduate learner, an applicant must have a bachelor's degree or its equivalent from a college or university acceptable to the academic administration. In very special circumstances and with the approval of the Dean, a person without an undergraduate degree, who can show evidence of ability to pursue graduate study, may be admitted as a provisional graduate learner. There will be no admittance to the doctoral program without an acceptable master's degree or its equivalent in transcripted credits and/or in-depth career experience.

Requirements
Honolulu
Honolulu University does not require on-campus residence or classroom
attendance, but students must be able to communicate effectively with
Honolulu University Staff. Students may complete all of their
coursework through a guided study program under the supervision of the
Faculty Advisor. The student and the Faculty Advisor are in continuous
contact through telephone, mail, e-mail or in-person visits whenever
possible.
Maximum length of time to complete the program is five years.
Enrollment
Time Requirements
Honolulu University allows learners to enroll at any time. Study programs
are self-paced so that mature adult learners can complete their coursework as
they are able to fit it into their work and study schedule. There is an
expectation however, that the learner will continue to progress at an agreed
upon satisfactory rate.
The Faculty Advisor and the learner mutually designate a projected goal
graduation date as part of the learning contract.
Code of Conduct
Should there be any question regarding the ethical conduct of the learner,
the degree sought will not be granted until the question is resolved.
